Heatherette puts the fun back into fashion. The way I see it, clothes are a sort of wrapping paper for the package which is you. Heatherette is for people who have a unique, life-loving, reality-thwarting view of things' and wrap themselves accordingly. After shooting many of the shows at fashion week, the blast of a show that was Heatherette energized me to no end.

Bold flirty colors make a visual imprint on fall fashion

And apparently I'm not the only one to think so because this show was the show to watch. I'd been warned by my editor they'd be checking my credentials upon arrival The show was such a must-see that people actually try to sneak in for a peek! And sure enough, somber faced security guards who'd been saying hello to me all week checked my badge, just in case. When I walked into the tent the amount of photographers rivaled some of the weeks top shows, And the mass of audience members waiting behind the ropes outside? Crazy huge.

And this was no ordinary audience (for the most part), no no NO. There were drag queens, celebrities of the fashion and tv world and my favorite, a man wearing chaps with no pants on. Bum bare to all with a look of complete and utter nonchalance on his face. Love it!

Yellow tape and stripes brought the yellow brick road theme to a new level

The show itself was themed from The Wizard of Oz and was aptly titled 'Over the Rainbow'. Aptly because the clothes themselves were infused with bright colors most designers wouldn't dare use for fall. But Richie Rich and Traver Rains are no ordinary designers and their clothes are geared for club kids, those fresh fashion lovers who have yet to be jaded by 'reality.'

Bondage and attitude go hand in hand

I love hearing how people have arrived where they are. Reading up on their website (Heatherette.com) I learned that Richie hails from my native Northern California and ice-skated with the likes of Kristi Yamaguchi. He placed nationally and then joined the Ice Capades before coming to New York and becoming a 'club kid', dancing all over in the city's hottest clubs. Traver, originally from Montana, won over 100 all-around titles competing in horse shows before moving to New York and meeting his future partner in destiny.

Genius is all in the details

The two started their line in 1999 and very quickly grabbed the much-coveted and sought after attention of Paris, Gwen Stefani, Naomi Campbell, Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Britney, Christina Aguilera, Aerosmith! ' and the list goes on and on. Oh, and Lydia Hearst is a fan who showed her loyalty by gracing the stage as Dorothy in this season's show. (I was particularly in love with Dorothy's completely innovative Racket-Bag. )

So let's get to the show itself. It began in black light, dancers running to and fro on the runway (and photographers next to me cursing the impossibly-lit shot) with a voice over the loud speakers telling us 'We're going to follow the yellow brick road AND PAINT IT A DIFFERENT COLOR!' This is when I started laughing and prepared to be fully entertained. And I was not disappointed.

The lights came on and, one after another, models walked out in designs infused with imagination, playfulness and art. My camera was loving every minute detail. I used to be a club kid and I could easily see people dancing in the clothes Richie and Traver put together. I could see them dancing as they walked down the sidewalks to GET to the club! You can see what I mean by the photos I took.

Dresses are a major part of every show for fall

I've always loved Glenda the Good Witch because my mother used to ask me, mimicking the melodic voice, 'Are you a good witch or a bad witch?', just to watch me laugh. So when the models cleared the stage and a slew of little ballerinas (I'd guess ages 6 to 13?) took to the runway followed by Glenda (played this evening by Amanda Lepore), I was completely enamored' along with everyone else in the room. The little ones pirouetted shyly while Glenda delicately and proudly made her way to the front of the runway.

But I have to say it was the show's finale (again in Black Light) where the models wore tee shirts with witty statements like 'We're not in Kansas Anymore' that really stole the show.

And I have a feeling the shirt that read 'If I only had a brain' worn by a expressionless model was the designer's way of letting us know they're not only IN on the joke' they wrote it.
